In our Church we mainly use a form of written services and prayers, (sometimes called liturgy,) that are common to the whole Church of England.  These come from the book of Common Worship.

St Margarets have formed our own booklet from  the Common Worship services, in everyday language, that we use regularly.

We have four different Sunday services:

Morning Worship, Evening Praise, Family Service and Holy Communion.

Why do we say prayers?

Holy Communion

When we have Holy Communion we say prayers out of the book to prepare ourselves for hearing his word, receiving  the bread and wine and for daily living in the way that pleases God.

First of all,  we ask God to change any wrong attitudes in us. We remind ourselves of his commandments and say sorry for our failings. This is called 'confessing our sins.' At the end of the prayer we ask God to forgive us from our sins and we are reassured that we are forgiven through Jesus who died for us.

Then, we hear God's word through the readings and the sermon and respond to it by saying the creed. This declares our belief and trust in God.

Then comes the please prayers, (called intercessions.) Either the vicar or other members of the congregation, come to the lectern and ask for things like healing for other people or help in the Third World countries.

We then have a special place for greeting each other, called the peace. This reminds us that we are one family together who have peace with God and each other through Jesus.

Before and after taking communion, we thank God for all that he has done for us, especially in Jesus and remind ourselves of all that he has done.

Finally we ask him to strengthen us in daily living to tell others about his love.

Morning Worship, Family Service and Evening Praise.

The prayers in the other services are similar but shorter and simpler. We don't hear the commandments, say the peace or say the communion prayers reminding us of all that Jesus did.

But the pattern of prayer is the same. Our worship always involves saying,
