The font is used for Baptisms. At St Margarets, it usually stands just inside the
entrance to the church, reminding members that to come in to the Christian faith we need
to be baptised.
Usually, it is kept with its lid in place.
When an adult or child is to baptised the
font is carried to the front and filled with water.
The vicar baptises them in the name of God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy
Spirit.
The washing in water shows that a person wants to be washed clean of all their sins
and to start a new life in the family of the Church.
