An Icon is the name given to a picture which has a deeper meaning and helps people
focus their minds on God. This picture given by friends in Canada has many of the
features of an icon.

St Margarets Church has this picture of
Jesus as a Child with his mother and father.
It reminds us that Jesus was the son of God but also that he had a family on earth.
By looking at the picture and praying to God we may be reminded of:
 | need for love
|
| that some may have parents on earth but we all have a loving father in heaven
|
| belonging
|
| Jesus, a friend who knows what it is like to be a child.
|
| obedience
|
| support of parents
|
| the holiness of their lives (represented by halos).
|
Try looking at the picture and ask God what He wants to tell you.
We do not believe that the icon is "magic" in any way but that it reminds us
to stop and think about God.

In most icons the faces of the three characters form a triangle, This
reminds us of the Trinity (God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit).
